Star Wars-Themed Original Art Offered In Heritage Auctions’ Internet Sale
Iconic images were licensed as guides for clients’ movie-themed promotional images
DALLAS, Texas (Jan. 30, 2018) – A pair of important original Star Wars-themed art by former Lucas Films artist Rick Hoberg is being offered in Heritage Auctions’ Sunday Internet Comics Auction closing Feb. 4 on HA.com.
The significance of the 11-by-14-inch ink-on-Bristol board artwork is twofold: not only does it feature images from the most successful movie franchise of all time, but some also became a significant part of the Star Wars licensing machine when prints and copies of the images were provided to licensees, who then would use them as an artist guide to create their own Star Wars-themed images.
In addition to his work with Lucas Films, Hoberg also was a regular artist on the Star Wars newspaper comic strip in 1980 for the “The Frozen World of Ota” story arc, and he also illustrated a few issues of the Star Warscomic book published by Marvel in the late 1970s.
Heritage Auctions also will offer additional licensed original art in future auctions, some of which will include some of the most famous characters, space craft and scenes from the iconic movie franchise.
