Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: The First Casey Jones Painting (TMNT) 1985

ARTWORK DETAILS:

Artist(s): Kevin Eastman - 1985, All
Media Type: Paint - Acrylic
Art Type: Pin Up
Views: 219
Added to Site: 6/3/2016

In early 1985, a little less than a year after Turtles #1 hit newsstands, Eastman & Laird were featured in "Comics Interview #27". As can be seen in the additional pic below, Comics Interview was published in B&W, which means nobody got to see the incredible colored version…until now... the very FIRST painting of Casey Jones ever done!

Shortly after "Comics Interview", the image was republished in 1986's Turtlemania #1 also in black and white. Turtlemania is a neat book, and the Gold Edition of the comic at only 10 copies produced, marks it as the rarest of all Turtles books. In Turtlemania, the piece was given a full pin-up status. Also of note, was that the image was included in the ROUGES GALLERY section (along with Shredder!) because at this point in his early history, it was not quite decided that he was one of the good guys who'd be apart of the team. A lot of early Turtles art are on sheets of paper; what I like about this one is that it's on a thick art board. You can actually see some unerased pencil marks, the inks, and the paints on top so everything in one place. Such a cool piece of history! Painting is roughly 8 X 11

$1950
