Description: Page 30 from the first A Sailor’s Story graphic novel, which was written and drawn by Sam Glanzman (pencils & inks), and published by Marvel Comics. In 1987.
A Sailor’s Story essentially continued Glanzman’s semi-autobiographical stories about his time serving aboard the Navy Destroyer, USS Stevens, during World War II.
In this page, Seaman Glanzman is transferred to work under Chief Wippit in the ship’s forward fireroom. The Chief tells him he’s had his eye on him and likes that Sam is always looking around at things and checking him out. He gives him some books to study and tells him he’ll help him get a Petty Officer’s rate. The bottom of the page shows a simplified diagram of a ship’s fireroom.
This page is also page 30 in the Dover Books collection of both Sailor Story graphic novels!
